HK Army's "8th Day Mistake"

What do you get when you mix HK Army with a motley crew of Punk Rockers?

You get none other than 8th Day Mistake.

An eclectic group of musicians from all over the globe, formed to bring you a sensational progressive punk band like you’ve never seen before.  We had the opportunity to catch these wild misfits headline at the “Whisky-A-Go-Go” last month. The performance was incredible. We haven’t had that much fun at a punk-rock show since Ace of Base, 1992.

We signed them for sponsorship after that event. The band consists of five members:

Zack- Lead Vocals

Derek-Guitar and Backup Vocals

Brian- Lead Guitar

Austin- Bass Guitar

Kyle- Drums

Based out of Orange County, you can catch these guys tearing it up at all the local, hot venues. They even performed on our HK Army stage at Audio Overload. Keep an eye out for these talented guys.  You’ll be hearing the name 8th Day Mistake all over the place. They will be going on a massive world tour in 2009.

Introducing, HK Army’s Pro MMA Fighter, James “Lightning” Wilks

Name: James Wilks

Nick Name: “Lightning” – for extremely fast striking

Occupation: Smash Faces

Professional Record: 4-2-0 (win-loss-draw)

Wins:

2 TKO’s

2 Submissions

Losses:

1 Submission

1 Decision

Association: Combat Submission Fighting

Birth Date: 1978-05-04

City: Laguna Hills

Country: USA

James “Lightning” Wilks is HK Army’s newest MMA cage fighter. He is a mixed martial arts virtuoso and is a top contender in his weight class. Born and raised in the UK, James has been involved in martial arts almost his entire life. He is a beast in the octagon and is currently on his way to becoming a top UFC fighter.

James just fought in the Apocalypse Cage Fighting league against pro fighter John Cole. It was the quickest fight we have ever seen. James came out to his signature “Pulp Fiction,” intro and was fired up.

Round one was about to start and both fighters prepared in their corners. James was looking loose and ready to smash the competition.

The round started and the fighters touched gloves. Cole got a nice little jab on James….

            Big mistake.

James’ eyes lit up and you can see his whole demeanor change. James stepped in and fired-off a lightning fast 3-punch combination. John Cole was stunned and lost his footing. As he was falling backwards into his guard, James threw a detrimental knee to Cole’s stomach.

John Cole’s rib cage had been crushed with one, single blow from “Lightning” Wilks.  The match was over as soon as it began. I believe the actual registered time for the match was 9 seconds.

Ouch…  You could hear John Cole screaming on the floor. He probably stayed down for at lest 5 minutes. James came away victorious and this match was now another notch under his belt.

Jay was in charge of photography and I was filming the fight, so we had a ring-side view. It was a ton of fun, except when blood would splatter on us through the fence.  We had a great time and look forward to future fights. James “Lightning” Wilks is a tough S.O.B. and definitely an exciting fighter to watch. We will keep everyone posted for his next fight.

HK – OVERLOAD

Live and direct from the city of Anaheim, the Audio-Overload Music Festival was insane. It should have been called the HK-Overload. We were all over the place.

We had a lot to set up for the event, considering the venue was pretty huge. 3 stages and 10,000 person capacity is no joke. We had to help build the HK Army Stage and set up the HK Army VIP area. Loaded with three beer kegs and 32 bottles of alcohol, Brian placed himself in charge of that department.

The end product was rather impressive. We had the HK Army stage laced-up with two 15’x14’ back drops and banners on the side. The HK tour bus was connected to our stage, and the HK VIP was located right behind that.

We needed to kick-off the event in the sweetest way possible, so we did the only thing we can possibly do……. Call Bang Anus.

The blog just started… and you already know you missed out.

Don’t lie.

So, needless to say, we got the crowd fired up for the first bands. We watched a group of kids hardcore dancing in front of the stage. I haven’t seen synchronized dancing like that since West Side Story. It was intense. Jay is editing a video with footage from the entire event. We are definitely adding some of the hardcore dancing.

We had the VIP all loaded up and ready to tap the first keg. We weren’t quite sure how much alcohol to provide, so we bought three kegs and 32 bottles of vodka and rum. If we had leftovers, we could always finish it the next night…. That was our logic behind purchasing too much booze. The funny thing is, that by the next morning, I only found half a bottle of rum leftover. I’m pretty sure that no one can remember the end of the night… except for Jay of course.

So we had HK Army banners everywhere, and thanks to Andrew Dill, we had the sweetest HK Skull and Crossbone cut-out that we have ever seen. Haha like we have seen many before. It is 5’x5’ stainless steel skull chiseled out of blood, sweat, and tears.

Side Note: If you are a freshman girl from San Diego State reading this, find Andrew Dill and give him a BJ. Submit your story and we will send you a free shirt.

So a new band called Sky Diamond City hit us up for sponsorship. We were a bit uncertain at first because their music genre was not exactly what we were looking for, but Linkerman and Brian new the guys… so we gave them a shot. We got them some free gear for their performance, not expecting much, but we ended up blown away by their performance. We were all very impressed. They killed it. Bleeding Through picked them up and is producing their next album. Keep an eye out for these guys.

The guitarists were nuts.

Vocals were sweet too.

Before they started, we sent Bang Anus to run around with the flag raised high to pump everyone up. He ended up on stage throwing out free clothes.

Keep in mind, it is about 110 degrees at this point and Bangers has been running around all day. The only thing he had consumed was beer and possibly some cheese popcorn. There is only so much ass grabbing one man can handle.

Poor guy over –heated and had to be hosed down. Bang Anus was 0-1 for the day.

Back at the VIP, we have already cleared one keg. Everyone was putting in work and handling the job well. Drinking all that alcohol was not an easy task. I think Brian and Marky might have consumed an entire keg to themselves. What does it mean when you are cross-eyed dancing on top of the tour bus?….

Either way, Marky and Nicholas still managed to kick it with the Millionaire girls. The whole night they were singing, “lets get f***ed up!”

They also found Holly Valentine before the Hyper Crush set.

Question: How many drunk people with lazy eyes can you spot in this picture?

So they were in sweet-mode, enjoying the afternoon. Meanwhile Alex is working our booth all day. I think he literally sat in our booth for over twelve hours and never peed once. He is a machine. We stole some fried chicken from back stage and brought it to Alex. We also kept handing off booze to him. It was the least we can do.

This photo is taken right before the event started… Alex may have stood up once. Maybe.

About 30 feet from our booth, there was a half-pipe for skating and BMX. Some Pro skater’s like Paul Rodriguez showed up to skate and sign autographs. We completely missed all the pro guys. I think we were being fat and sitting in the Audio-Overload VIP because they had air conditioning and free snacks.

However, we did get to see Jeffree Star. Jay was real excited for that performance, I’m not sure why.

Unfortunately, Jeffree Star didn’t perform on the HK Army main stage, but we still snapped some good photos of Jeffree by the HK skull and crossbones. There were a ton of people lined-up to see him….her.

Me and Marky went backstage after Jeffree’s performance and couldn’t believe what we found. We had to take a photo.

There were 2 trannys and Jeffree Star hanging out. It was incredible…. They all looked like real girls. I mean, you can still see their wieners buldging through their shorts, but if you don’t look at that, they are pretty convincing.

Breathe Carolina played after Jeffree Star. If you haven’t heard them, they sound like an electronic version of Hanson accompanied by a hardcore screamer. They had good stage energy. All the girls seem to love them.

Notice the sweet Keytar. Quite a few of the bands at Audio-Overload incorporate the keytar in their music. That definitely ups their stock. Rules and regs.

So at this time, it is probably around 10pm. Kegs are almost all tapped and there is a trash can full of empty bottles. It seemed like everyone was ready for the headliners to get on stage.

8th Day Mistake was up first. They got the crowd fired up and called us all on stage. Jay and I dipped. We tried to lay low, but Marky and Scotty got suckered into going up. They all sang that Ramones song, “Blitzkrieg Bop,” on stage.

Next up was one of the bands we had been anxious to see all day. Their name is Hyper Crush. They are super talented and have sick beats. If you haven’t heard of them, feel free to get in the loop.

Donny, Holly and Preston tore it up. The crowd was going nuts. We all tried to watch from the top of the bus, but the fire marshal kicked us off. We had no choice but to charge into the crowd surrounding the stage.

Preston’s keytar has lazer lights that shoot out of the top handle. It is a fully upgraded keytar.

Pretty sweet.

Broken Cyde 13 was after Hyper Crush. They were missing Bree, the crunk pig mascot, but even without the pig, their set was pretty awesome.

You can see Scotty’s head towering over the 15 year-old girls.

So that was it for the entire show. Fire Marshal wanted to end the event because of all the noise laws. They had arranged for a DJ to spin for the after party, but Breakthru Entertainment cancelled it. Jay and I cleaned up our area a little while everyone else was thinking of ways we could continue to party.

Danny, Mark and Scott’s cousin, came up with a great idea. He decided that since the DJ was already there to spin for the after party, we might as well let him spin. So we cleared out the tour bus and put both of our huge Mackie speakers inside. He posted up his DJ equipment in the front of the bus and it instantly turned into club HK Army.

We also got those tranny’s to come party…

We also found some dirty-dirties repping the 951… haha

Club HK Army closed at 3am due to lack of alcohol. Alas, the ship had run dry and it was time to end the madness. Besides, once the alcohol starts to wear off, so does your beer goggles… and we all know how that goes.

I would have to say that overall it was a successful event. We accomplished everything we set out to do. I am proud of everyone and we actually pulled it off with short notice.

Until next time…
